Reminiscing Army @ Labrador Park

Went for staff games yesterday after 2 deals in the afternoon. I was really looking forward to staff games that day but was a little disappointed by the number of turn ups. Fortunately its a blessing in disguise as the playing area is not large enough for a big crowd and is just nice for 6v6. I loved the setting of the place. It used to be a fort during the Japanese Occupation(not really the time to visit such a place atm actually) and is used to defend Singapore from invasion by the shore. There are lots of statues, old walls and cannons which makes the whole place somewhat similar to a ruin city. What a nice setting to play Combat Skirmish! The only bad part is visibility in the night. hah it was more exciting in the day as i have better line of sight. Bashing through the jungle in the night wif minimal visibility and the heck-care-ness of whatever is in front of me reminds me of my army days. The smell of the jungle deeply etched in my memory (used to sleep, eat, fight in the jungle). We had seafood dinner after at a restaurant nearby. Thanks to joshua for giving us this treat :)

I really like this park. It have tradition, history complemented with great view of the sea. Furthermore it is really nice peaceful and quiet over there. Don't really understand why there is so little people there..is it because of the hungry ghost festival? lols. Some pictures of the place i found online.

The Proposal

Watched the proposal last night. Superb movie. I was really entertained by the humour in the show. Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds have amazing chemistry. Ryan Reynolds is damn good in such rom-com movies. His previous piece - Definitely, Maybe is also a must watch for romance comedy lovers out there. His wife is Scarlet Johansson in reality..omg..lucky bastard! All in all, the Proposal might not be ground breaking stuff, but it’s a delightful and very enjoyable distraction that will lift your spirits. Go watch it :) Next movies to watch..The Time Traveler's Wife and The Ugly Truth.

七夕情人節

Today is the chinese valentine's day. Do you know the origin of it? Chinese Valentine's Day (or "Qi Qiao Jie " falls on the seventh day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar. As is the custom elsewhere in the world, this is a day devoted to romance.

The Love Story

According to legend, long ago, Nanyang west of the city, there lived a honest and humble fellow. He lived with his elder brother and sister-in-law. After his parents passed away, the boy's brother inherited the house and land. His sister-in-law is a vicious lady whom often abused him and forced him to do a lot of chores. All he had was an old ox. As a cowherd, the boy had to work the farm fields with his ox everyday.

The seventh daughter of the Emperor, also known as the Weaving Maid, was good at handcrafting, especially weaving clothes. The Emperor particularly appreciated her skills of weaving clouds with rainbows to make the world more beautiful.

The cowherd's ox, which was actually an immortal from heaven, made mistakes in heaven and was reincarnated as an ox to toil on earth. One day, the ox suddenly said to the cowherd: "You are a nice person. If you want to get married, go to the brook and your wish will come true." The cowherd went to the brook and watched the seven pretty daughters of the Emperor come down from heaven to take a bath. Fascinated by the youngest and the most beautiful one, the cowherd hid her fairy clothes. When the other six fairies went away after the bath, the youngest could not fly back to heaven without her fairy clothes.

The cowherd then appeared and told the Weaving Maid that he would keep her clothes until she agreed to be his wife. After a slight hesitation, mixed with coyness and eagerness, the maid accepted the handsome man's proposal. The couple was then married, had two children two years later and lived a happy life. But this did not last long, up in heaven, the Jade Emperor missed the beautiful skies once woven by his seventh daughter. He ordered the Queen Mother to find her and bring her back to him. The Weaving Maid had no choice but to return to heaven without her family.

The cowherd couldn't fly up to heaven as he is only a mortal. Touched by their love for each other, the old ox proposed to give him his skin - to be made into shoes so that he can fly to heaven. As the seventh princess was flying to heaven with her mother, the cowherd put on his old ox's hide and put their children into two bamboo baskets laced with his wife's magical fairy clothes to chase after his love. Alas, just when he was about to reach her, the Queen Mother created a milky way in the sky, which kept the lovers apart.

They could only look at each other..and cry. Their everlasting love for each other was deeply empathized by the magpies. Millions of magpies flew and created a bridge across the milky way so that the lovers can meet. The Queen Mother had no choice but to allow the two lovers meet but on a condition - that is they can only see other for a day every year on the seventh of July.

Chinese Valentine's Day is also called "The Daughter's Festival". Long ago, Chinese girls aspired to becoming skilled craftswomen like the Weaving Maid. This skill was considered essential to their future as wives and mothers. On that night, unmarried girls prayed to the Weaving Maid star for the special gift. When the star Vega was high up in the sky, girls performed a small test by placing a needle on the water's surface: If the needle did not sink, the girl was considered to be ready to find a husband. Once a year, on this day, girls could wish for anything their hearts desired.

In some Chinese provinces, people believe that decorating an ox's horns with flowers on Chinese Valentine's Day will ward off disaster. On the night of Valentine's Day, women wash their hair to give it a fresh and shiny look; children wash their faces the next morning using the overnight water in their backyards for a more naturally beautiful appearance; and girls throw five-colored ropes made during the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival on the roofs so magpies can use them to build the bridge.

Thin Wallet

My wallet is getting thinner day by day. chalet, 5 ktvs in 3 weeeeks, 4 birthdays in 2 weeks and my own impulsive buys...zzz. My big plans for thailand trip looks to be shelved for the moment le. haiz. Listening to Ye Zi by Ah Sang now. Her voice is so moving and soothing. Have always loved her songs especially Yi Zhi Hen An Jing. A sincere and serious singer, like what i'd be. A pity she have left this world. God bless her. Backache..Ouch

Help! argh..terrible backache. Couldn't sleep well last night because of it. Got the backache from the chalet on the first night...

Haven had the feeling of going to a chalet for a loong time. It was damn good and it feels like a short getaway. Kudos to Bryan for booking it. The bungalow is made exclusive to Takashimaya staff only and it costs only $90 for 3 days 2 nights. It has a pretty nice view of the east coast beach and the bungalow was newly renovated. Before we arrive, Bryan was telling us that his colleagues had a first hand spooky encounter in the chalet. Theres a granny at the second floor bedroom. It din't really bother us as hungry ghost festival is still a week away.

Well..i got drunk on the first night..as usual. I need more training man. I was left to sleep alone downstairs haha. Vomited everywhere around me and the whole sofa was soaked by my dinner + cheng teng. Extremely grateful to Bryan and Samuel for cleaning me and my mess up. paiseh brothers..Thats how i got my backache the next day i think - awkward sleeping posture when wasted.

Anyways chalet was fun. Eagerly anticipating our hiking expedition and road trip to KL/Genting! :))

HUAT AH!

Went to watch this movie yesterday with aaron. The movie sucks big time in terms of plot and visual effects. What else is new about a Jack Neo movie? lols thus when i went into the cinema, my mindset is - its a B-grade movie i am just here to laugh my ass off (and i did). The hokkien dialogues in the movie are damn hilarious. HUAT AH! My favourite tagline is frequently used in the show. I am really amused by liu qian yi and wang lei's acting. So typical hokkien peng. I wanna watch UP and Gi Joe too..sigh but cannot find any kaki to watch with. nvmss waiting for download! :D

Bought myself a new carryall from Topman. Original price $219 but i buy at $49! HUAT AH! 不买对不起自己啊! Buy more save more :) I gonna use it when i go to chalet today. Coincidentally tomorrow is the opening day of the english premier league. I can anticipate a gambling plus drinking day tmr! hahahas HUAT HUAT AH!

Can't believe i am already counting down to the end of my work here at SMRT. The life here is work 1 hour and surf net for 3 hours. Ultimate boredom. Luckily i am located in a cubicle where there is not much traffic and away from other people's eyes. Else if i cannot use the internet, i may not survive one week. MSN is blocked here..thank god for Starhub - giving me free mobile msn whereever i go. I am actually feeling damn sleepy right now. arghs. Its the environment, the office environment, plus the mindless job. Even though i had enough sleep, i'd still feel super lethargic. Cannot imagine what it will be like the next time i go out and work. zzz nvms looking forward to shopping later, movie with the dudes tmr and chalet over the weekend! :)

Been real busy the past four days..slogging at the Harvey Norman Road show. I am really quite sick of working Road Shows already..Damn tiring. Tmr will be a new life for me. At least till the 21st of September. Working life. Waking up early in the morning and feeling sleepy by 12 midnight. hmmmm i need getting used to it. Been too busy and haven really got a chance to think about things...So i'll just summarise my thoughts with the songs i post. Pardon me for my bad singing..din really practise..and its a first cut. :) I'm so glad to see Shu Hua and Samuel today during work. So happy she brought me Topman vouchers, think its shopping time tmr after workk! Any followers?

偏爱

Today will be the third time i am going to Teo Heng KTV in six days with different people. Madness! hahs i found my passion for chinese songs recently again. Thats why i have been posting chinese song lyrics at the end of my posts recently. Its the middle of the year today according to the lunar calendar. My Ah Ma prepared tang yuan for us. I love my Ah Ma's tang yuan, they are very nice, Q and they will not stick together. Ah Ma is getting more frail day by day, i am really worried for her..She cannot stop smoking and going out everyday. She just cannot stop going to meet her friends and work. I am very much like her, and i am grateful for that. Love you so much Ah Ma..just can't say it out to her..

I stayed up till 4am yesterday to watch finish this drama serial 仙劍奇俠傳三. Its damn..damn nice! It has a very nice sad love story based on 古装. I have always loved such 古装 shows. The trials and tribulations the heroes face and the sad entwining love stories in them never failed to enthrall me. The love portrayed in such shows is too perfect. 小龙女 can wait 16 years for 杨过. In 仙剑, 龍葵 can wait 1000 years for 景天 and 紫璇 200 years for 长卿. Do such love exist in the real world? lols. I have been influenced way too much by such shows. First 15 years of my life is carefree. The next 10, i have been in love...alone. Pining for a girl have become my curse. Just like in the shows..我的宿命. Alright..I should stop watching....haha. 倚天屠龙记 is coming out soon! Can't wait...

Hired!

I am finally hired to work at SMRT HQ starting from 11th August till 21st September. Another road show coming up from 7-10 August at Expo for Harvey Normann. $ $ $ comingggg lols. All these will go into my shopping + Bangkok fund. Xing Rong came over to my place this morning and we went tanning at my block. The sun was good and ahhh my face hurts a little now.. This is the first time i have used those tanning chairs at my place in 6 years. Recently i have been using my facilities alot. Finally. hahas. Tmr its tan + swim again! and KTV time at Teo Heng~~~ :)

Insomnia

Feels like insomnia ahhh~ :( Its five am in the morning, i have given up trying to fall asleep. So here i am blogging again~ hahs. Had a fun time today playing badminton with bird, his brother, ks and qing lu. They are damn pro and i love the competitiveness when i play with the pros. I haven really touched badminton for a loong time..due to my weekends normally filled with work. Its odd this week that i reverted everyday only to get one working slot...sigh. Bought myself a new shoe bag! its damn retro and nice frm Nike. Realise i have been spending lots of money recently..hmmmmm more to come..haha! Chalet is coming next next week followed by road trip to Genting/KL. yeaaa man! Something to look forward to now :) Meanwhile i am still looking for kakis to go Bangkok..Anybody??
